How does Invisalign work?

Invisalign is unlike other orthodontic treatments in that it does not require wires or brackets because the aligners are clear and removable. The aligners are worn for 2 weeks at a time and then replaced with the next in the series until the treatment is complete and your teeth are straight. Though the aligners are removable they should be worn for a minimum of 21 hours per day to maximise results.

The aligners are custom-made for each patient and will be shaped according to the level of tooth movement desired. The aligners generate gentle pressure and the treatment system is renowned for being comfortable.

What does treatment involve?

Before the aligners are fitted and treatment can begin, photographs and impressions are taken of the patient’s teeth and used to map out the treatment and fabricate the aligners. Each aligner is slightly different in order to gradually align the teeth

The aligners are worn for at least 21 hours per day and for two weeks at a time. Old aligners should be swapped for the next in the series and so on until treatment completion. Your Glasgow Invisalign dentist will arrange regular check-ups to monitor the progress of your treatment and to ensure that you are happy with the treatment.

What are the advantages of Invisalign?

The most obvious advantage is that the aligners are practically invisible and will remain discreet throughout the treatment process. Most orthodontic patients worry about the way they will look during treatment, so this is a great option for the more image-conscious.

Invisalign aligners are also comfortable because there is no metal or painful bands, no adjustments and the aligners generate gentle pressure to move the teeth.

The aligners are also removable and so you will not need to worry about eating in public or being able to brush your teeth properly. They can also be removed for special occasions when you want to look your best.
